This weekend marked my final cross country race at Caltech. This was my third season running XC at Caltech (my junior year I studied abroad at the University of Edinburgh in the fall term, during XC season, and ran with the Edinburgh Haries instead). I've watched the team change significantly over the past four years, and I wanted to share some pictures from my final race with my amazing teammates!
This was our SCIAC championship meet, the final race for our conference. The next race is NCAA D3 regionals, at Willamette College in Oregon, but I will not be racing there this year (only the seven fastest on each team race at regionals). It was pretty cold in the morning when we arrived at Prado Park (our race was in Chino, CA), but it really warmed up by the time our race began at 9:45. The men raced first, and the women raced on the same course (with a slightly shorter distance- 6k instead of 8k) second. This order switches every year. The course was not nearly as muddy as it was my Sophomore year, the last time I ran this race, when it rained the entire day.
The Caltech XC teams really came through! The men's team beat two SCIAC teams, one in a tie-breaker, and the women's team beat three conference teams for the first time in 20 years. One of our freshman came in 6th place overall, the first freshman to cross the finish line!
