Caltech is a small school, but that is by no means limiting. Caltech undergrads will venture into Los Angeles and explore the city. My hovse has a tradition of “Frosh Adventures” where late Friday night, we all pile into cars and drive to get late night boba, crepes, tapas, or karaoke somewhere in the greater Los Angeles area.
Being in LA provides the opportunity for many great adventures. Within walking distance from campus is a metro line that can bring us into Hollywood and other parts of L.A. This past Halloween my boyfriend and I made our way into WeHo (West Hollywood, a well-known predominantly gay, neighborhood of Los Angeles).
For Halloween, they close off the main road, Santa Monica Blvd., and have Halloween festivities lining the street for several miles, and the place is packed. According to their website, there are hundreds of thousands of people in attendance, and I definitely believe it. I unfortunately couldn’t get many good pictures, because with that many people, with that many phones all searching for a signal, my phone died really quickly. However, you can google pictures and find a lot of the cool costumes and events.
There are live bands, costume competitions, and dancing. There were tons of people there in creative costumes, from the Tardis, Occupy Sesame Street, to drag mariachi players. There where the minions from “Despicable Me” and men dressed as giant purses.
Going to WeHo for Halloween was awesome. I highly recommend it.
